Noncontact Hand Motion Classification Technique for Application to Human–Machine Interfaces

In this paper, I present an effective noncontact tech- nique for the measurement of human hand motion with wireless portable motion detection sensors; this technique allows the detec- tion of the subject’s hand movements. This method involves the measurement of the current generated due to the difference in the capacitance between the subject’s hand and the measurement electrodes in the motion detection sensor. The two motion detection sensors are capable of detecting the direction of the subject’s hand movement by measuring the time difference of the peak of the electrostatic induction current.
