Shock absorber test rig using cam and sensors
Modern methods for testing shock absorbers involve high cost. This project aims at testing the shock absorber with low cost using a random cam, dead weight, load cell and CRO. Motion is transmitted from a motor to cam. Rotary motion of the cam is converted into reciprocating motion by means of a follower. The follower moves the dead weight which intern moves the shock absorber. Since top end of the shock absorber is fixed rigidly through a load cell, the output compressive and tensile forces are studied.The study revealed that the output load is less than that of the input load showing the damping effect of shock absorber.
